Mah Bio!

My Childhood

My name is Mariah Dixie Hernandez, i was born at Sharp Memorial Hospital on October 8,1995. I have 4 siblings and they are all older than me. My brothers Victor (30) and Aj (28) are both Army veterans. My sister Desiree (24) goes to Grossmont College to get her degree in Forensic Science. And lastly, my brother Vaughn (20) works at Gieco and also attends Grossmont College to get his degree in Math. My mother, Dawn, is going to community college to become a RN. And my father, Vic, is an architect and designs cancer treatment centers. I was born in Santee, California and i lived there for 7 years.
My family and i moved to Rancho San Diego and I was there for 3rd grade until 8th grade. I was a cheerleader for 3 years, and quit after my freshman year. Also when I was in 5th grade, I danced until 7th grade. After i graduated middle school, i moved back to Santee with my mom. I have been going to west hills for 4 years, and i am about to graduate. I have always been interested in caring for kids, and id really like some of my own.

My hobbies

When i was in 6th grade, i started to do hip-hop and jazz and ballet. After 3 years of it, i quit and started getting into cheerleading. I had fun with cheer because i could be loud and be with all my friends at the same time. When i moved back to Santee, i was going into high school and i knew nobody. So cheer was my way of making friends. I met my best friend Niki in cheer, and i am still very close to her til this day. I quit cheer after my freshman year. I was also always interested in kids and helping them. Around my sophomore year, I realized I wanted to become a nurse. My senior year, I signed up for nursing classes at my community college.

My  Memories

In kindergarten, I had just learned the Pledge Of Allegiance, and I was reciting it to my brother and mom, while I was sitting on the arm of the couch. In the middle of saying it all, I fell off the couch and broke my left arm. I had to have a cast for a month. My family always tells me now not to sit on the arm of the couch because of what happened.

My family and I would go to Phoenix, AZ every summer to visit my moms family. On our way home one trip, we noticed it was starting to rain. When we pulled up to a checkpoint station just outside of San Diego, we pulled over and my brother and mom got out to cover our suit cases. Being high up in the mountains,  there was thunder and lightning. Just as my mom got off the bed of our truck, my brother was still standing, and before we knew it, a lightning bolt struck on the next lane, about 10 feet away from my brother. All I could remember was how loud it was, sounding like a gun shot in my ear.

On June 14, of my junior year, was one of the hardest days of my life. It was towards the end of the year, and we were having a powder puff football practice. As I went to my bag to get my water, I noticed on my phone that I had a number of missed calls and texts from my friends, saying to call this number. As I called the number, no one answered. And a few minutes later, the number called. All my teammates were yelling for me to come back, but I knew something was not right. An officer asked if I knew Mario Rodriguez, and I happened to be dating him at the time. I said yes, and asked why he was calling. The officer had said Mario got into a car accident, and that he did not make it. At first, I thought to myself, "This has to be a joke", and I said that to the officer. And he assured me, it was no joke. I started to tremble, and not know what to think. And the questions started. Where was he? Who was in the car? When did this happen? How did this happen? I was being told, the cause of death was drunk driving. I could not believe what I was hearing. Getting off the phone, I was standing there, alone, in complete shock. My best friend, Allie, came over and she knew in an instant something was not right. She saw the tears coming, and she asked what happened. I kept yelling, "he's gone, he's really gone" and I tried to tell her what happened, but I could barley catch my breath. Right away, she took me to his best friend, Alan. Being one of the first people that knew, I had to leave the practice, so people wouldn't ask what was going on. As I walked into Alan's house, I saw him just sitting there, with the blankest face. He was heart broken, his best friend, brother, other half, was gone in an instant. I will never forget that day, or Mario.

My Interests

Since I was little, I have always been interested in helping people. I loved to play "nurse, or doctor" with my mom. As I got older, I really wanted to become a RN. Being in the hospital a lot myself, I wanted to give back what they did for me. Pediatric Nursing has always been a dream for me, and I will make that dream come true by doing what I have to do in college.
